Driftwood Scarecrow is the songwriting project of Northern Virginia based artist Chris Greene. Greene's influences include Sufjan Stevens, Elliott Smith, and Nick Cave.
Driftwood Scarecrow's debut album Beyond the Breakers was recorded on an antique version of Garageband and released independently in February 2018.
In 2018, Greene lost his voice and was unable to perform for several years.
A new album, Invaderpedes, was released in August 2022. Representing a departure from his previously acoustic style, the record explores intrusive thoughts, aftermath, and distortion through hypnotic chord cycles, hushed vocals, and electronic beats. Greene describes the album's genre as "bedroom sadwave." Stephen Carradini of Independent Clauses describes the track "Monsters" as "Low-key electronic indie-pop that sounds like a mashup of The Postal Serviceās beats, Dashboard Confessionalās lyrics, and Sufjan Stevensā emotional timbre."
