Up on the wall just to paint it red: creating a place outside of time.
We always want to do as much as we can in-camera, meaning that we want our sets and props to be real and physically present in the room with us.
We did this on "We Kill What We Love" where we built a small room with fake foliage in a rehearsal space, and for "BRNDNC" we turned our van into an XCOM-loading-screen-inspired rave party
For "Have You" we transformed a room in our apartment into a place that exists outside of our mortal plane, populated by symbols, props and characters that are fantastical, and inspired from Greek, Egyptian, Japanese and Chinese mythology. As with most of our projects, at first we didn't have the "how", but we knew the "what". We visualized and knew what we wanted it to look like.
We knew we wanted the lighting to have a dreamy quality, with god rays and smoke that filled the room in a realistic, but fantastical way. Most importantly, we wanted it to be REAL, and to be THERE.
The less fun part is that we actually had to live in it for a while, due to multiple reshoots, but that's a story for another time. 🖤🗡🩸

Depends on what you're calling it: obsession or creative drive. One example is the headpiece.
We wanted it to be real, stunning and it had to reflect light in a specific way in real life so that it looked in a specific way on camera. After days of research (and madly scrolling on Pinterest), we found out that a headpiece like that costs A LOT of money, so we built one ourselves. We learned how to make jewelry, ordered a bunch of reflective, diamond-like tiny glass pieces and handcrafted each one onto the wireframe.
And then it didn't look right, it looked very rough and cheap. So we started again, from scratch, and that's the headpiece you see in the music video for "Have You". It was a months' long process of almost daily work in our tiny kitchen, supported by watching the entirety of Naruto.
It was one of the hardest and most precise tasks on this video, but one of the most rewarding.
