It was a very cold and wet day out today, and it made me think of all the people in my own home city who have nowhere but a tent (or even less) to call home.
I've lucky that even though I am disabled, I have a home, food on my table and a warm bed. There's on elderly an who my daughter passes by every day on her way to work, and he's often shivering, sleeping out in the cold. She doesn't have much herself, but she bought him a gift card so her can at least get a hot meal.
What's that old saying that goes "there but for the grace of god go I"? It could be any one of us-me, you , anyone. Just one accident, illness, an unforeseen bill or a job loss and we'd be where he is. In the end maybe it doesn't matter how he got there, what matters is that he's there now and needs help. Help that isn't coming and he's just one of how many?
Times are tough right now for many people, but please,if you can, make a donation to your local food bank, homeless shelter or program that helps the homeless. It may not help everyone, but it will help someone. I'm not trying to be political, nag anyone of "virtue signal"-I just can't let it go and not say anything.

Well everyone, I got my first "sponsor",lol-well, kind of. My daughter went through the texts she used in university, and she's trying to sell off some of the more obscure ones. So tomorrow my attempt at reading "The Blue Castle" will begin. I'm planning on doing it after my son has left for college in the morning and the house is quiet.

I've really been enjoying reading a book called "The Blue Castle". It was written by the same person who wrote the "Anne of Green Gables" series, but it is very different. It was written in the early 20th century, and talks about how women were treated f they weren't married, how unwed mothers were often treated by their communities, infant death, how men who deviated from socially accepted norms ware often seen as a pariah.
I've been thinking about reading a chapter a week and posting it on here for discussion.

I hope you all enjoy my bird and other nature videos as much as I enjoyed making them. Canadian winters may be cold and (very) long, but they do give us some special gifts, like the chance to help and watch local wildlife. In my "day job", I work as a writer, and I find it very relaxing to watch the birds. My videos are raw and unedited-my truck and trade is writing, and I am terrible at video editing, lol.
