Founded in 1999 in Dalian, Wang Wen is considered as the giant of instrumental-rock/post -rock band in China. Often mentioned in the same breath as instrumental rock masters like Mogwai, Tortoise and Mono, Wang Wen have been the standard bearers of Chinese post-rock for almost a quarter of a century. Hailing from the northern city of Dalian, the six-piece have released 12 studio albums, the last of which was 2022’s acclaimed ‘Painful Clown & Ninja Tiger’, and also collaborated with Swedish experimental instrumentalists pg.lost on the 2013 record ‘Split’.
Wang Wen makes beautiful melancholic and polyphonic instrumental music absorbing from musicians like Mogwai and Jaga Jazzist, and they are well known for their intense live shows. They toured Asia and Europe multiple times and brought their music to more than 20 countries and districts. Wang Wen are so special, they bound to be the leading post-rock band of China.
