Initially an "organization for women and development" working mainly on capacity building of grass roots organizations, Projekta has transformed into one of the most important advocacy and one of the most visible civil society organizations in Suriname, focusing on Governance, Participation and Gender Equality. In our work we stress the interlinkage between governance, democracy, gender equality and women's rights.
Our programs and activities are designed from a rights based perspective. We aim at increasing accountability of duty bearers through advocating and building capacity for participatory policy monitoring; as well as setting up accountability mechanisms with other civil society groups.
At the same time we work on building voice of the rights holders, through capacity building and public awareness; and strengthening civil society in Suriname.
