I qualified as a Radiological Controls Engineer after a little more than two years of studying and a four hour oral-examination from three senior supervisors with more than 30 years of total experience, so I feel fairly qualified to answer the question of whether or not the x-ray dose that you received from the machine you built is dangerous or not.

You can find the federal requirements for the limiting doses to various parts of the body in 10 CFR 20. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 10, Part 20 - Standards for Protection Against Radiation, Subpart C - Occupational Dose Limits, § 20.1201 - Occupational dose limits for adults, Paragraph (a).(2). (ii) states: "The annual limits to the lens of the eye, to the skin of the whole body, and to the skin of the extremities, which are: A shallow-dose equivalent of 50 rem
