I’m an Assistant Professor at Dongguk University in Seoul, where I’ve been living and teaching for over a decade. I host the Seoul Book and Culture Club and the Seoul Film Society. I was the first host of TBS eFM’s ‘The Bookend’ and later hosted ‘Barry’s Book Club’ on EBS FM. I currently contribute a literature section to KBS News 24.
My book reviews have appeared in Korea Magazine, Seoul Selection, 10 Magazine, and Acta Koreana. I’ve also written for Groove Korea, Korean Literature Now, and LIST Magazine. Previously, I was a columnist for the Hankook Ilbo and 좋은 생각.
Before moving to Seoul, I worked at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. I hold degrees in English Literature (BA Hons) from Liverpool University, Film Studies (MSc) from Edinburgh, and an MA in TESOL from Sookmyung Women’s University.
