Be a part of an important research grant that will identify diabetic patients who merit further screening for pancreatic cancer. This grant is named after our dad, who we sadly lost to pancreatic cancer on November 28th, 2006. He was only 55 years old.
About a year before Dad was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer, he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. This was incredibly strange to all of us since Dad was extremely healthy and there was absolutely no history of diabetes in our family. Still, never for a second did we consider it might actually be an indication of something much worse.
We are sponsoring cutting edge research taking place at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center by Dr. Anirban Maitra. This research aims to find biomarkers in diabetic patients, which would identify individuals who might benefit from further pancreatic cancer screening.
