Meet My Wife 💍 // Channel Update! 😊
Yes, even I’m surprised by the title of this post! I lived almost all of my 20s as a single man. We will leave that topic for another day.
I will start by quoting the pastor who officiated our wedding. “God stays up at night writing a better story than we could.” I am so thankful that our Father in Heaven cares enough to be intricately woven into every aspect of our lives.
While I prayed for a wife for so many years, I now realize I didn’t even know what I was looking for. Ryan is so much better than my wildest dreams.
I recently heard a writer say, “We don’t just bow our heads to God in prayer, we can look up to Him.” We don’t have to hide! We can trust that He cares even more than we do.
Jesus said, “When you see me, you have seen the father!” John 14:9
No matter how many people try to distort the nature of the Father, we take heart of Jesus' words. No aspect of the Father is inconsistent with Jesus. If we have seen Jesus, we have seen our Father! We are not waiting on the gavel of judgment or shame from God!
He is love. He is God, father, abba, and papa!
I say all of this to say, that I most certainly do not feel I deserve the woman God has blessed me with. I made many wrong turns and choices on this journey. I lived in sin patterns and chased my ambitions for years at a time.
I did many wrong things and ended up in the right place…
Now that is a testimony to Jesus right there!
As I have taken steps back from social media, I realize that much of my personal life is not shared.
I must confess, I feel more comfortable keeping all of my personal life private. I have recently meditated on these words from Jesus.
“So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Let your light shine.
This sounds less like a suggestion and more like a command. This scripture leads me to ask, “How do I let my life shine in this new season?”
While the Retreat YouTube channel started many years ago, I realized this is now Ryan's and I’s to steward together.
She was the other half of Retreat.
As we unpacked this thought, I realized how she had already been living the retreat life long before we met.
The spirit had already led her into a lifestyle of rest, retreat, and dependence on God.
Not only this but right before Ryan and I met, I felt led to take a break from creating content.
While this was challenging at times, I would not change the past year I’ve had privately, newly married, and among my community. I have realized that we all want to start something, but very few of us want to do it in God’s way and his timing.
As we move forward with Retreat, Ryan and I will be creating content together.
This is so very exciting and shocking for me! I had long hoped to be married, but I was also learning to be content with singleness.
We want to help people intentionally live out their faith in the everyday!
We want to inspire people to commune with each other and commune with God.
We want to invite you into a deep breath of rest and reflection with Jesus.
In the coming months, we’ll plan to post videos on singleness, how we met, and all the details of our wedding!
We’ll continue to share Retreat content including talks on Jesus, Sabbath, and cultivating a healthy relationship with technology.
Those videos will also help you get to know Ryan much better than this email. :)
We don’t want to create any content out of the place of “us having all the answers.”
We simply want to allow our light to shine and share some of what we’ve experienced in private over the past year.
While there may or may not be a podcast in the works.. we will begin by posting to Youtube in the coming weeks.
We are also in the process of moving out of our house and finishing my book.

I left my videography and photography one year ago. I was booking clients and making money, but I had lost the art. When your hobby becomes your job, you lose your hobby. It's hard to believe, but success can sometimes be your greatest weakness. I had grown the business but somehow lost myself.
At the end of business, I entered what I would call an artist season. I began to believe that I could be an artist and create on my own again.

Intentional Living + Everyday Faith
To retreat is to refuse the fight and resist the rhythms of culture. As we slow and simplify the faith journey, we realize how complicated it has become. We are to engage with culture and build a life of our own, but as followers of Jesus, we should do it differently.
God isn’t just doing a new thing, he’s returning us back to the old, the things that still matter most. We accept His invitation into the simplicity of stillness and the rhythms of grace. We are a platform that intersects the beauty of art and the traditions of faith.
Artists, writers, designers, leaders, and lovers come together. We rest in His finished work, the very best we can bring.
