I'm an editor of comic book/graphic novels to video.
It was my love for cinema, cartoons and comic books that made me start doing this kind of works which are cheap although very time consuming.
I think that's the main reason why I don't know anyone else doing this kind of stuff.

An one-issue Darkhorse comic book adapted to video using sound effects from the Star Wars Universe which give it a SW film feeling.

War of the Worlds by Orson Welles:
The radio transmission which cause panic in the US in 1938 adapted to video using Darkhorse's War of the Worlds as a image source.

Star Wars: Resurrection
(Darth Vader vs Darth Maul comic book - a similar "purge" kind of video can be expected.)
