Tin Foil Astronaut; the vehicle for Margate based producer and multi-instrumentalist Max Taylor’s whims and obsessions, “gives us a glimpse of what it might be like to enter the cosmos, but only in the ho-hum imagination of the everyday man” (Rob Hakimian, 405). Resplendent guitars and otherworldly synth textures, combine with introspective and melancholy tinged lyricism to evoke daydreams of far away places and a desire to escape the pressures of modern life.
What started as bedroom demos, and the fantasy of producing a soundtrack for a western movie, quickly developed into a fully fledged collective crafting alluring psych-pop music. After calling on childhood friends to realise Max’s DIY home recordings as a live force, the group bonded musically over a love of Doo Wop harmonies and Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd soundscapes. Before long, the projects live shows had included opening slots for the likes of Mini Mansions, Olden Yolk and Broken Hands.
