There’s Prosecco, and then there’s Cartizze Prosecco, a special subsection of a mere 108 hectares in the hilly part of Valdobbiadene DOCG represented by 45 wine producers. To put it into context: Prosecco DOC covers +34k hectares, while Prosecco DOCG (Rive, Conegliano Valdobbiadene, Asolo) spans 10.7k hectares.

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a couple of days with Diva Maddalena Moretti Polegato and her younger brother Leonardo Moretti Polegato delving into discussions about the NextGen, NoLo alcohol trends, and more. 🍷 🍾🥂

Often the term “old vines” are used loosely but in Sardegna 🇮🇹 centennials are common for both old vines and people. Yep there are studies trying to figure out why there are so many centennials in some parts of this island.

As with most part of Italy, in Oliena (Cannonau Conference venue), Orgosolo (famous for bandits and murales) and Mamoiada (many old vineyards) were struck with heavy 🌧️ lasting continuously for several days.

Once the rain had ceased we found a vineyard to visit finally. Mostly, we enjoyed Cannonau 🍷 (Grenache, Garnacha) and endless amount of Carasau (Sardinian flat bread 🫓).

Sardegna is not the easiest place to get to but definitely worthwhile. I love wine business even more when I can be immersed in local culture meeting some local people.
