I love all of our majestic flora and fauna in all its beauty.Much of the natural world has been decimated by the greed of mankind. There are a number of species that are in danger of extinction because of this insidious greed. To illustrate this I will mention an apex predator of the oceans, the shark. On average ,sharks in a year kill 5 humans. Yet in the same period, on average man kills 100 million sharks. They are killed for the disgusting trade in shark fins, predominantly for export to China and other Asian countries.
One importantly critical ecosystem is Sea Grass. It is not a grass, but a flowering plant. They only cover about .2% of the world's ocean. These seagrass meadows can capture twice as much co2 as the Amazon rainforest.
We need nature's help with the giga tons of co2 that we are pumping into our atmosphere. Since 1879 some 29% of seagrass meadows have been lost. Thankfully, there are conservation areas being adapted for new seagrass meadows.
