Nick Stewart Ink Art is a visually impactive illustration and lettering investigation that re-imagines fountain pen inks to see if it’s possible to enhance and explore their potential for existing and alternative uses within the visual arts. A project where taking risks and making mistakes is positively encouraged and where serendipity plays a key role in the creation of unique and visually stunning imagery.
Each fountain pen ink has its own unique character traits and when dropped onto a wetted paper surface the dyes that make up that ink are often released to great dramatic effect. This chromatic process is very much serendipity led and the beauty of the final outcomes are invariably dictated by this. I champion the concepts of “less is more” and “alchemy”, or in this case, creating a gold effect through subjecting fountain pen inks to the destructive behaviour of bleach, which often results in gorgeous gold neon glows. But this is just the beginning. Enjoy my channel...
