Worship with music in the New Testament is based on truth, understanding, and spirit (John 4:24, 1 Cor. 14:15). And these criteria are only met by the musical instrument created by God, the human voice. These verses in the New Testament, from which the church based its practice of worship, are the standard of authority why the early Anabaptists and the conservative Mennonites practice unaccompanied congregational singing in worship: Matt 26:30; Mark 14:26; Acts 16:25; 1 Cor. 14:15; Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 13:15. When the church meets for worship, singing to worship God must be a corporate activity by the whole congregation and it must not be used either to showcase talents or to entertain and amuse a segment of the congregation.
