These videos are about muscle glycogen storage disease (GSD), particularly McArdle disease (GSD5), Tarui disease (GSD7) and in the future other muscle GSDs. These are very rare metabolic disorders of the skeletal muscles. This genetic condition results in a missing enzyme which causes a significant energy deficit at the start of all exercise and throughout intense exercise. It produces pain and if exercise is continued in the presence of pain it can result in cramps, fixed contractures and muscle breakdown. In rare cases, there is acute renal failure with possible need for dialysis, and/or compartment syndrome which can require urgent surgical intervention.
