Mexican singer-songwriter Rosalino Sánchez Félix, known as Chalino Sanchez was born in Sinaloa, Mexico on August 30, 1960 –he was tragically murdered at the age of 31 in the same state of Sinaloa. His life in Mexico was not easy, and at the age of seventeen, he fled to Tijuana, eventually crossing to the United States. He worked service jobs like dish washing, but allegedly also did small-time drug dealing. In 1984, his brother was murdered in Tijuana, inspiring Chalino to write his first corrido dedicated to his brother, “Armando Sanchez.” Soon after, Chalino served time in prison, where he began writing more songs, many telling stories that his inmates shared with him. He was singing narcocorridos (drug ballads) when nobody else was doing it. He was real and original, and fans eventually named him the “King of Corridos.” Chalino recorded for several labels before signing with Musart/Balboa Records where he recorded some of his greatest albums like Alma Enamorada and Nieves de Enero.
