I’m Kiki Bennett, I’m 16, and PROMISES LIKE GHOSTS is my first album. I’ve spent half my life teaching myself how to produce and write music that feels like it belongs to the 90s but is still my own. I’m inspired by early drum and bass, trip hop, dub, alternative rock and pop, and the strange crossovers between pop and underground.
Some of the artists that shaped me are DJ Shadow and UNKLE, Björk, Sneaker Pimps, The Upsetters, Squarepusher, Depeche Mode, Boards Of Canada, Beck, Sun Ra, Prince, Radiohead, Pepe Deluxe, Massive Attack…countless more.
Names that most people my age don’t really know, but I think they’d like if they found them.
I’ve always felt like I live half in the beautiful outdoors and half in old flashing 90s machines-Computers, Samplers, Synthesizers. My music sits in that space, somewhere between human and mechanical, natural and digital. PROMISES LIKE GHOSTS is my way of taking the sounds of an era lost-in-time and letting them breathe again, in my own way.
