Long before he was the patriarch of one of Hollywood's most famous families, Billy Ray Cyrus was a straight-out-of-the-box success story in Nashville. His first album, 1992's Some Gave All, made its debut at the top of the country charts and went on to sell 20 million copies worldwide, on the strength of such hits as the title track and what became the Kentucky native's signature song, "Achy Breaky Heart."
Now, 22 years later, Cyrus is celebrating his astronomical start in country music with a retrospective album titled Icon: The Distance.
"The Distance" is the only brand-new song on the album, and one that Cyrus explains is symbolic of more than just his longevity in country music.
"The song is about going full circle in my life both personally and professionally," he tells Rolling Stone Country. "I'm proud to still be standing here and looking forward to what the future holds. I am going the distance."
