H.E. Tsem Rinpoche has been visiting Malaysia since 1992, when he first came to raise funds for his monastery, Gaden Shartse. Since then, he has grown to love the country and her people.
After accomplishing his fundraising mission in 1993, Rinpoche returned to Gaden to continue his monastic studies. In 2000, after repeated requests for teachings from his students, Rinpoche came back to Malaysia to open Kechara Paradise (KP) SS2, our first Dharma outlet. He envisioned KP to be a modern temple for modern people, spreading the Dharma to those who otherwise would not seek spirituality. Kechara House Buddhist Association (KHBA) was established in 2001 and for a few years, Rinpoche gave occasional teachings in KP and other informal locations.
On 27 November 2010, the new Kechara Gompa was officially opened by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche, incorporating the functions of both Kechara House 1 and 2, and now serves as the heart of all Kechara activities in the Sunwaymas area.
