History of Ghalib Institute: The idea of founding a fitting memorial to Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib was first mooted by a committee formed under the patronage of Dr Zakir Husain, late President of India to celebrate the Ghalib Centenary in 1969. Mrs Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister was appointed the President, & Mr Fakhrudddin Ali Ahmed (Former President of India) was the secretary of the committee. As a result of the endeavours of this committee, Ghalib Institute was established in 1971. It is now a well-known Institute, not only in India but also abroad, actively engaged in various academic & cultural fields, managed by a trust of eminent people. The Institute’s building is in its own premises known as Aiwan-e-Ghalib. It has an Admin Block, a Research Library named “Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Research Library”, “Begum Abida Ahmed Ghalib Museum”, “Ghalib Auditorium”, Seminar Hall, & a Guest House. The Institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2019.
