I am making a video on the new floor anchoring frame for a kitchen island installation, but my experience is limited because I have only used it twice so far.

Have you used it?

Singe or double-row island?

What did you like?

What did you NOT like?

What is your verdict?

Please let me know in the comments.

THANKS !!!

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU.

I am overwhelmed by gratitude for my channel's growth, so I am sending a BIG THANK YOU to all the subscribers and viewers. Thank you for the many likes, comments, and questions.

114,000 views in a month. This means that someone is clicking on the play button every 22 seconds, 24-7. WOW!

And 378,000 minutes watched. Wow, that is a lot.

It equals 37 full-time positions, so imagine such a big group of people sitting an entire workday, five days each week, doing nothing but watching me, an older fella with a weird accent, explaining how to install those kitchens. Crazy :-)

Thanks again.

Lars, in gratitude.

Marcy sent me a question: I hope you can benefit from my answer, too.

"I installed Sektion cabinets and Enkoping front on my island. I am getting a non-ikea 1.25" quartzite countertop.

I have doors underneath my 12" overhang, and the countertop person says he cannot use his brackets because they have nothing to attach to.

I'm wondering how you've solved this in the past. Do you add 3/4" plywood on top of the Ikea cabinets? Do you screw wood behind the cabinet in the middle of the cabinet for a L bracket?

I'm the first Ikea cabinet they've installed countertop on that has moving doors under the countertop.

Also, I must say your videos on adjusting the doors and drawers is a lifesaver NO ONE talks about the order in which to do the adjusting except you! Thanks so very much!

Here's my reply:

All countertop companies I've worked with have not required brackets if the overhang is 12 inches or less.

I've only installed brackets on one occasion, and I used something like these:

ironsupports.com/products/hidden-island-countertop…

I had to add some 2x4" at the top, inside the cabinet, at the back and at the front to have something to screw the bracket into.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed my video about adjusting doors and drawers.

Thanks.
Lars

Georg from Hungary made this kitchen, and he did great work on the plan and the installation.

I find the European-size appliances are much more pleasant than what we usually have in Canada/the US.

Here is what he decided to share:
"The basic idea was to use the maximum amount of storage capacity available, in the given space. In a stylish and functional design. Me and my partner thought a lot about, what we wanted. We had a few alternative plans. And the proof that we thought it out well, in the end. Is that we wouldn't change anything, as it is perfect for us in the everyday use. Plus we love the looks. In real life even more, than on the photos. The idea was from both of us. I did the planning on the IKEA kitchen planner. And the installation was done by me, with the help of my partner."

Chris finished an Ikea Kitchen not long ago, and it looks amazing.

Here are a few words about the project.

"Hi Lars.

Finished our Ikea kitchen this past spring. I watched all your videos and rewatched a bunch more.

We went with a large island with a full wall pantry and galley style for the cooking area.

The team at Ikea were really great to deal with. Counters are granite from Home Hardware as well as the sink and backsplash.

Thanks!"

Dan installed an Ikea kitchen in his new cottage, and I think it looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

Here is a bit about his experience in his own words.

"Hello Lars, our recent IKEA kitchen install is in our new-build cottage. I watched all (ALL!) of your YouTube content and found your advice and guidance very helpful.

I loved the suspension rail approach and the legs, to help get to level. The farmhouse sink is a highlight for us.

I am not a fan of the screws IKEA provides for joining cabinets together and ended up finding better ones that would not break off at the head.

And IKEA never got the white microwave oven with hood vent that I had included in our design in stock, so we had to source one elsewhere.

The butcher block countertops you will see in the pic, below are solid acacia, from Home Hardware.

Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome and I really appreciate your help."

I RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT PLANNING:

QUESTION:
We started installing our rails and upper cabinets yesterday.

As we're going along the floor plan they provided We noticed a lot of dimensions that we were uncertain of. We started in the corner where the 30" blend cabinet is. The plan said leave a half inch space from the wall so we did that. This also moved the cabinets down which changed the space for the hood. Now that it's hanging my question is is that enough space to open the doors in that corner? We didn't install the blind panel or the floating hinges yet. I'm also concerned on that wall about the base cabinets the plan says 26 3/8 on each end. If that is the dimension we need to use then I only have 31.25 in left for the range to slide in. My new slide and range is 30 in wide. It is extremely important to have the range and the hood centered on the wall. That was one of the reasons I ripped this kitchen out. Please let me know if we should just book a call with you I have other questions. I truly appreciate all of your help.
With gratitude,
KH

ANSWER:
Thank you for your email, and the support. Highly appreciated. I am happy to hear that the videos are helpful.

Well... well. I opened the plan in the Ikea online planner (using the design ID on one of your pictures), and there's something wrong in the upper corner, okay? Did Ikea help you with the plan?

The corner cabinet (upper) you mention is normally a 36" cabinet, with 2" to the wall, so it is 38" in total. The one in your plan is a 30" wide cabinet, so if you intend to use this with the floating hinges and a blind panel, the door will be 15" and not 21" as normal. Still doable, but you will need 2" to the wall as I see it. If the door is 15" wide, and the blind panel 15" to, but if you don't have the space at the wall, the door won't open.

In your plan, the 36" wide wall cabinet to the right of the corner may be pushed all the way to the vent hood to help, but that will ruin your symmetry.

Room for stove. I never leave more than 31" for the stove, but most often, only 30.5". Plenty of space.

When you move cabinets around in the planner, I suggest setting the width of the stove to 31" or how much you want the space to be. Then you won't get less.

The dead corner on the other side is because of your sink; you want the faucet dead center on the window, right?

If your room's width is 168", as in the plan, you will have plenty of room for the stove—32" to be exact. The corner to the left is 26", not 26 3/8, so when you install, start by deciding how much room you want for your stove and move from there. Then, you will end up with the filler between the corner and the 12", which is a bit more than 2 inches, which is fine.

I have a video showing how to do those fillers. https://youtu.be/RX3mMKt1gbc

And to reinforce the corner, https://youtu.be/o4Zj6qow74M

The lowers are good, but I would do something different in the upper corner. To minimize changes, I would skip the blind corner cabinet, replace it with a 12" cabinet and add fillers to create a dead corner. Not a big loss.

Cheers.
Lars

One of my latest.

The first time, I installed an island with two rows of different lengths, which is why the countertop has a 45° corner.

Check this out...

JT sent me a few pictures as he couldn't obtain the proper clearance between the drawers in a 15-10-5 inch setup, no matter how hard he tried, while following the instructions from this video: https://youtu.be/aU5mQvNKPR0

It turned out the medium (10") drawer was upside down due to the incorrect position of the stamp, which is usually at the bottom (or a sticker).

When you measure the distance from the edge to the first hole from the top, the distance should be 1 3/4". If it's less, the front is upside down.
