Formed in late 2018, Meltway - a then 4-piece band - pursued the stylistic vein of the 90’s shoegaze scene with crusty distortion guitars, progressive drums, and supremely airy vocal figures. Only two years after their formation, the band self-released their lo-fi-heavy debut EP, Everytime, a daydreamy handful of songs with alluring atmospheres of heartbreak and self-disorientation, that was quickly discovered by the legendary KEXP through their digital sale on Bandcamp.
Based in Esbjerg, Denmark, Meltway originally consisted of vocalist/guitarist Mathias Hammerstrøm, bassist/vocalist Mikkel Schmidt, guitarist Thomas Brunbjerg and drummer Magnus Bjørnsen. It was when Thomas spent a year abroad in Estonia in 2020, and the band hired the guitarist Kristoffer Møller as a stand-in, they realized they couldn’t let him go when Thomas returned. Meltway became a 5-piece band and with 3 guitars, it made it possible for them to further develop their sound craftsmanship into their songwriting.
