Founded in 1995, The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the nationâs largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically around the needs of Asian and African elephants. It operates on 3,060 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
The Sanctuary also works to raise public awareness of the complex needs of elephants and the crisis facing elephants in the wild. The Elephant Discovery Center, The Sanctuaryâs educational center with exhibits focused on elephantsâ role as a keystone species, is open to visitors in downtown Hohenwald. The elephantsâ habitats are closed to the public.
