Began playing guitar at the age of 10. Formed first band with brothers in 1981. In 1986 formed A Tribe of Toffs and in 1988 had a hit record with John Kettley (Is A Weatherman) reaching number 21 in the charts.
In 1992 became founder member of The Gravel Monsters and changed band name to Ruth when signed to ARC Records in 1994. Reached number 65 with 'I Don't Know' in 1997 and released 'Harrison' album. Toured Europe and played at South by South West festival in Austin Texas in 2000.
Founder member of The 45s in 2001 who signed to Mercury Records. Toured the UK supporting Shed Seven and Delirious. Band split in 2003 and lead singer Matt Hales went on to form Aqualung and have a hit with 'Strange and Beautiful'. Stephen continues to write and perform as an unsigned solo artist.
