Hi everyone, welcome to my power carving channel. My name is Matt (Hence the channels name) and I love carving. I mainly use a Dremel as my go to weapon of choice. I mainly carve small sculptures out of wood and broken skateboards.
I taught myself how to paint in my 20s and fell in love with creating all sorts of objects, in 2007 I went to art school and ended up doing a bachelor of fine arts (with Hons), specializing in Sculpture. Although I did not learn to sculpt wood at university the basic principles of making art applies to any medium. Thus, over the last 3 years I have been making wooden jewellery to sell, and on the side, I have been making other projects out of wood. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand with my wife in a small beach settlement, we live a simple life, but it is full of creativity.
We also foster dogs that have been rescued. This provides me with a little company in the daytime as it is sometimes a bit lonely in the workshop for 8 hours a day.
