About

The Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (TCBG), NIH Center for Macromolecular Modeling and Bioinformatics, was founded by Klaus Schulten in 1989, and it is located at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The group is led by Professor Emad Tajkhorshid (Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Bioengineering) with Professors Laxmikant Kale (Computer Science), Zaida Luthey-Schulten (Chemistry, Biophysics) and Alek Aksimentiev (Physics, Biophysics). Research and development activities of TCBG focus on atomic-level studies of the structure, dynamics, and function of supramolecular systems in the living cell, and on the development of new algorithms and efficient computing tools for structural biology.
