Cell EXPLORERS is an Irish science outreach programme based in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at University of Galway. Our national network is made of 13 teams constituted of members from 10 Institutions in Ireland. We aim to engage and inspire young people and the general public in all things science, with an emphasis on molecular and cellular biology (because we started as biochemists!). The 13 Cell EXPLORERS teams visit schools around their localities, with an emphasis of activities around Science Week.
Science Foundation Ireland is funding our national network through Discover strategic partnership Award. All our regional teams are supported locally by their institutions. Between 2012 and 2022 Cell EXPLORERS involved 1,900 team members, visited 862 classrooms in 587 schools and reached 50,000 members of the public.
