Dear subcsribers. A few days I posted this amazing FULL CONCERT recording of Jaco Pastorius from his first trio tour with guitar prodigy Bireli Lagrene. Again, NOTHING from this concert has ever been officially released with the exception of an edited version of Jaco's concluding bass solo. Highlights include a flawless rendering of "Chromatic Fantasy", a beautiful take on "Continuum" and a fantastic solo from Jaco on "Satin Doll". If you're a Jaco fan I strongly urge you to check out this 1 hour + recording of Jaco and the band in top form, perhaps the finest concert from this mostly very successful tour. I'm honestly a bit puzzled that this clip has garnered so few views so far, because Jaco's playing here is better than any of the officially released material with Bireli. So, what are you waiting for?? :)

Dear subscribers. I thought you might like to know that Norwegian bassist/composer Terje Gewelt just posted a personal recording of him jamming on a blues with Jaco in the fall of 1985. Terje was studying at Berklee at the time and took several private lessons with Jaco in NYC that he recorded. It starts out with Jaco playing a walking bass line that Terje solos brifely over before he hands the spotlight to Jaco who proceeds to solo in an inspired fashion for several minutes before the recording fades out. We owe Terje a lot of thanks for his generosity in deciding to share this gem. The sound quality is very good too. Here's the link:

Dear subscribers, here's a rare and unreleased recording of Joni Mitchell, Jaco Pastorius, Michael Brecker and Don Alias performing a killer version of "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines" in Oklahoma City on August 3rd 1979 during Joni's Shadows & Light Tour. Out of all the recordings I've heard of this tune from this tour this one stands out. Firstly, Jaco has a a short bass intro before Joni comes in and what follows after Joni has finished singing is the most out there( in a good way) improv from the trio with Brecker going wild and Jaco throwing in all sorts of crazy fills and even leading the group into a double time section as the tune progresses. The recording also has very good sound quality for an audience recording, with Jaco being the loudest in the mix. The venue for the concert was the Zoo Amphitheatre:

Dear subscribers. Here's a special treat for you :) It's a rare live recording of bassist phenomenon and Miles Davis alumni Dave Holland performing his own composition "Jumpin In" during a solo concert he held at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts on June 27th in 1985. The level of virtuosity Dave exhibits in this clip is at a level that I've only heard the likes of NHØP, Christian Mcbride and a handful others achieve. His speed, phrasing, intonation and rhythmic sense is almost frightening to listen to! This recording also has sound quality to match the performance, which makes it all the more memorable. Other notable versions of this tune can be found on the first Dave Holland Quintet album( it's the title track) and on the piano/bass duo album "Up and Down" with pianist Milcho Leviev:

Dear subscribers. I uploaded a new clip yesterday, a PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED killer audio recording of Jaco Pastorius playing "Donna Lee" at a blazing tempo, preceded by Jaco soloing over the "Smoke On The Water" riff. Jaco's solo on "Donna Lee" in particular is phenomenal, so I'm surprised that the clip has garnered relatively few views and few comments/likes so far. I will upload the entire concert recording eventually, but in the meantime I strongly encourage you to check it out, because it features some of Jaco's most inspired playing during his later years.

Hi, and thanks for stopping by. On this channel I will share and post rare jazz recordings that I've collected through roughly 20 years of trading with people from across the globe. My main focus is on the music of jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius, but I will from time to time also post recordings from other artists that I hope you will find interesting. If you enjoy what I post, feel free to "like", subscribe and/or participate in the discussion by leaving a comment. Happy listening and thanks for reading :)
P.S I didn't tape any of these recordings myself. I was born in 1986, so I wasn't even alive at the time when many of them were made. So to any of you who taped these recordings back in the day reading this, please do not hesitate to contact me so that I can give you proper credit!
