obviously the #fixourcommunity posts are valid and i totally believe people are seeing the harassment and impersonation and all that. that SUCKS. i have seen some of that, ive had edits get stolen, etc. and maybe im an anomaly or just oblivious but i dont see the "fandom falling apart" that people are talking about.
we're a fandom made up of a lot of very young people. a lot of the KIDS interacting with videos havent learned how to respectfully engage with content, so they make rude comments, steal ideas, etc. is this an excuse? absolutely not. but it does give context.
im sure there's stuff im not seeing, but its hard to think that so many other people are having their "lives ruined" by this kind of thing after being in the fandom/editing community for only a few months. ive been here for over a year now, ive experienced the show fans coming in and the fandom being bumpy for a while, but im not seeing anything that i think is THAT crazy. its youtube.
yes, spam comments suck. yes, people who steal edits suck. yes, people commenting rude things suck. but i feel like im missing something? im confused, i dont currently see why so many people are having such big reactions and i want to understand whats happening in my community so if someone could explain this to me, that would be great.
