Over 30 years ago, after one too many fish lost to weak tippets and countless good casts that failed to present the fly the way he imagined, worldwide fly fishing bum—and our founder—Jim Vincent had had enough. His search for better lines and leaders kept bringing him back to the old axiom, if you want something done right, do it yourself. Which is exactly what he did.
In 1990, Jim and his wife, Kitty, set up shop in Idaho Falls, Idaho and started an arduous R & D process that continues to this day. RIO Products, as they called the company, started with a simple mission: Make a better connection between anglers and fish. After initial success with vastly improved leaders and tippet, RIO moved on to revolutionize fly line manufacturing and design.
