Instrumental remix of the opening theme (Ai yo kienaide) from City Hunter anime which was a commission.

The background art is also a commission (not mine) which can be seen here: twitter.com/DanChaos1/status/1424925854480715777
Amazing art!

My first remix of a song not coming from a video game. This opening theme was the very first used in this anime that aired 1987. The genre is quite aligned to the style I like and partly trying to imitate. The remix was also made as a karaoke song.

During three hidden moments in this remix, I fused short Street Fighter classic themes into the song. The melody played by the lead synth is the vocal melody originally sung by Kahoru Kohirumaki.

The City Hunter logotype was made by digital artist satirevecolepe:

I want to thank the commissioner for this opportunity to try something different. It was really fun!

I'm happy to have been commissioned to draw the art, but your musical genius is what shines here! Good job!

Oh, this is fuckin' sick! Ai Yo Kienaide is one of my favorite anime OP's ever, and this is such an upbeat fake-80's remix of it! This belongs in a City Hunter beat em' up game. Love it!

Ah, man, you're doing commissions now? That's so exciting to hear! Although I will say that I'm not at all surprised that people are interested in having you create custom remixes for them. But still, it's always gratifying to know that people think so highly of your music, and I'm glad that your skills are in-demand! I've never heard the original theme that this is based off of, so I can only go with what I'm hearing, but man, this song is definitely a great fit for your retro-synthwave style. Granted, I genuinely think you could Neon-X-ify just about any song in existence and make it sound convincingly great, but certain songs just lend themselves more readily to the signature style you've developed. Heck, I feel like you could even pull off something super rubato and elegant like Clair de Lune if you wanted to. XD Anyway, I love the instrumentation used here, with your instantly recognizable lead, that more mellow and dry variation of it (which I recall first hearing in your Noki Bay Depths remix), and those awesome synths used in the moving arpeggios (e.g., 1:21). The bass has great movement here, with superb depth and warmth, as well. And those transitions are as good as ever! I especially like the one at 1:20, where it has that cool stutter/roll sound, like a snare drum being struck by a barrage of projectiles - or in this case, a flurry of punches! K. O.!! Oh, and speaking of knockouts, those Street Fighter references are superbly integrated into the remix. I don't know SF's soundtracks well at all (mainly from hearing your and other peoples' remixes), but I liked that Guile's Theme interlude at 1:17 (and again at 2:37) before the big drop - that was a really creative transition! And I think that was a riff of Ryu's Theme at 0:36? But as for that third one... I'm complete stumped. I really wanted to figure it out, too! 😅 But seriously, they were so smoothly implemented, and they feel right at home in the remix. Your arrangement skills are next-level, for real. As usual, the percussion and percussion sound powerful and, just... really plain cool here. As I've mentioned in a previous video, I really like that "zappy" sound (first heard at 0:09) that you're using in your latest remixes. It fits with the other percussive elements so well, and it has a unique and slick sound that really brings something special to the beat. Honestly, you've gotten me wanting to use a similar type of sound, as well! And the drums are crisp and punchy, and I like the kick drum especially, in terms of syncopated rhythms, and in how "clicky" it sounds - truly, a retro kick style! Man, your remixes never cease to amaze me. Between the vibrant, exciting artwork (props to the commissioner/artist!) and the music itself, this video has me feeling really good! I don't often get that feeling of complete immersion from listening to music, but I certainly did here. I can just feel the excitement of the crowd as Ryu and that featured character take the stage! Fantastic work, my friend!
