Remix of Chemical Plant Zone theme from Sonic The Hedgehog 2 released on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear and Saturn

LISTEN ON SPOTIFY - open.spotify.com/track/4xaZxUzKbJNId5gHVkD2sU?si=x…

Since I'm almost a pure Nintendo player, the Sega world is kind of new, except for Sonic of course. But I never really played anything else from Sonic than the very first game, so Sonic 2 is new in every way for me. I was very surprised by the soundtrack, every song has so much potential! And there were some songs I just couldn't let go of, Chemical Plant was one of them. And I will grab more for sure!

I would say this one goes under blues, funk, maybe fusion of some kind, and I really took advantage of those genres by tweaking my synthesizers to sound like instruments used regurarly in those genres. Dry, fast, max attack, not much effects except for the lead with some delay, and the bass with a heavy chorus effect (just like some of the 80s synth basses which I love).

I wanted the remix to be very recognizeable from the original in many parts, but with some enhanced harmonies and fills from new composed lines. And then a completely new section - I'm not sure how I came up with it, it often just starts with one chord off from the original and then my head is spinning loose with countless ideas of which I just grab one and write down.

For some reason I took some inspiration from Dream Theater starting at 1:22 - I think I would refer to it as an John Petrucci part where all things calms down, the tempo goes down to half and there are these extended tones from his singing guitar playing a beautiful melodic solo, maybe along in harmony with Jordan Rudess' wizard like keyboard play. The chords kind of follows how Petrucci would have wrote them too.

Overall I just loved working on this song, the original is so catchy and fun. Really love this style and tried to extend it as much as I could without trashing the original too much.

I already got suggestions on other Sonic themes, but would love to have some more. And if you know any more songs in this particular style I would be very interested in hearing them.

All of your mixes add so much soul to memories. You've found a way to capture all of the emotion of experiencing a game for the first time and replicate it.

Awesome. I like that this is a lot more varied than most remixes. New notes, new chords.

Wow; yet another fantastic integration of harmonic synths to showcase the epic theme that is Chemical Plant Zone!! The melodic changeup at 1:09 really took me for a ride & quite honestly felt natural as if was part of the original soundtrack! Great work as always, i’ve been very inspired by your latest remixes! πŸ™Œ

Holy, wow, this is so cool! It's just slick and oozes style... Listening to your remix was the first time I've heard this song, and I felt the urge to just groove right along with the beat. And my goodness, there are certain sections that just give a truly euphoric feeling, which I'll get to later. :D One thing I really love about your arrangements is that they get right into the action. Every measure counts, and although your intros help to build up anticipation for the main melody, they have plenty of excitement in themselves. Each phrase has so much polish, and nothing in your music ever feels like it was there just to take up time or pad the arrangement. I can really just sense the immense pride you take through the care that goes into all aspects of the arrangement and instrumentation! Woah, that bass is super cool, and I love how it's digital sounding, with a bit of a growl and a heavy electronic feel. It's a perfect fit here, and it sounds incredible on all sound systems - laptop speakers, car stereo, phone speakers, and of course headphones. It's really well balanced, and the rhythms in the bass complement the percussive elements well, sometimes working in tandem with the beat, and sometimes in contrast to it. And it even sounds like the bass sort of dips in pitch on held notes, or maybe some kind of phasing LFO, but either way, it sounds really neat! I have to say, this sounds so tight, with all these offset syncopated rhythms, and I'm just amazed at how you manage to create such a full, yet clean sound, with so many quick-moving parts. It's atmospheric, yet crisp, and your ability to accomplish both of those is truly impressive! Like, the bass, supporting rhythms, and lead parts are all playing different rhythms, yet they're so well-coordinated, so it never sounds too busy or messy (I could learn from your example! πŸ˜…) No doubt, this is the result of careful sound balancing, EQ'ing, making sure note lengths are precise, and adjusting the reverb and delay to be just right. Okay, so that part at 1:23 truly just sounds heavenly! I was sincerely blown away by how much the song opens up at that point, and its like the feeling of just soaring into the air with an ultimate sense of freedom! Seriously, I can't even put into words how much that part made an impact on me, and I had to replay that section countless number of times just to get my fill of it. Of course, this isn't meant to detract from the rest of the song, because there are creative and fun details all throughout. Like that snappy ending, for instance - I love how it ends on a major chord on the upbeat of the measure - again, the timing with that is tight! Your music is always such a genuine pleasure to listen to, Neon X, and you just continue to improve with each new remix! It's amazing that you've built up this supportive community, and that you've found such joy in this hobby. I hope it's something you continue to love for a long time to come! Until next time, my friend! ^_

Very enjoyable track! I feel like the hi hatz are a little neglected though. They kind of just ticked through the whole song, but overall the whole feel of the track is great!

Maan, what a dope remix again! I really love the solo parts in this, especially around 1:40! Really had a blast! I could imagine this track on OCRemix aswell, but I guess your backlog of submissions is huuuge already!

Ahh, purple, my reocurring least favourite color across my whole slew of gaming experiences. Chemical Plant works so well in your style, that i wouldn't mind nearly drowning to hear it all. Wait. What's this ominous music playing for....ehhh, it's probably not important.

I'm not a Sonic music connaisseur, but this doesn't get much more 'Neon X-y' than this :D Love it!
